Reflexology in ancient Egypt
Reflexology is a holistic natural therapy based on the principle that there are reflex points in the feet and hands that correspond to all glands, organs and parts of the body.
A reflexology treatment consists of manipulation of these reflex points to:
relieve stress and tension
improve blood circulation and promote the unblocking of nerve impulses
help nature to achieve homeostasis
By profoundly relaxing the client, reflexology aids in supporting the body's own innate healing mechanisms, thereby addressing the root cause of disease and not just the symptoms. It is estimated that at least 75% of today's diseases are attributable to stress and tension, so the relaxing, energizing, and rebalancing effects of Reflexology make it a potent way to achieve better health in our modern stressful lives.
Reflexology can be utilized both as a preventive measure or energy booster for those already enjoying good health, and also by those suffering from a wide variety of conditions including:
Stress & anxiety, Headaches & migraine, Depression, Back pain & sciatica, Hormonal imbalance, Insomnia.
Brief history of Reflexology
There is evidence of the feet being used in healing from as far back as 5000 years ago in ancient India. Hieroglyphics, dating from 2500 B.C. Found on the wall of a tomb suggest that the ancient Egyptians also used a form of Reflexology. The modern day approach draws much from a treatment known as "Zone Therapy", which was utilized by medical doctors in the 1900's. Later, Eunice Ingham, a physiotherapist, translated this theory to the feet, and modern Reflexology came into being.
